A 45-year-old man charged with the murder of 71-year-old John Gerard Boyle appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Friday via video link from HMP Peterborough.
Northamptonshire Police said officers were called to a flat at Leatherland Court in Kettering on Saturday, where they found Mr Boyle with injuries that proved fatal. The deceased has been identified as John Gerard Boyle, who is reported to have been a father of six and a grandfather to 15.
The defendant, named in court as John Mills of Marriott Street, Northampton, has been charged with murder and with a separate allegation of theft of a vehicle. He has not yet entered a plea to either charge; the presumption of innocence applies.
