At least four people were killed after a Russian drone struck an apartment block in Kyiv's Lisovyi district, causing multiple floors to collapse and prompting large-scale rescue operations. President Zelensky said about 430 drones and 18 missiles were used in the attacks that damaged dozens of high-rise buildings and Kyiv's energy infrastructure. Separate strikes hit Chornomorsk and, according to officials, the Russian port of Novorossiysk — where fires damaged an oil refinery — and Ukraine said it launched "Neptune" missiles in response. Rescue teams saved more than 40 people amid ongoing emergency operations.

Drone strike rips through Kyiv building amid wider attacks on Ukraine and Russia
At least four people were killed when a Russian drone struck an apartment block in Kyiv's eastern Lisovyi district during a wave of overnight strikes across the capital, officials said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the raids as "vile and calculated," saying roughly 430 drones and 18 missiles had been launched and that dozens of high-rise buildings were damaged.
Rescue operations and eyewitness accounts
Emergency teams searched the wreckage after Kyiv fire service investigators said the drone hit the seventh floor of the block; when it exploded, floors eight down to four collapsed. A local resident, Vita, described seeing the drone "pierce the building and explode on the other side." Two cranes lifted rescue workers as crews cleared broken wall sections and shattered glass to reach survivors.
Emergency services said more than 40 people were rescued — including 14 from a residential building fire — and that nine people were being treated in hospital, one in an "extremely serious" condition. Falling debris and subsequent fires damaged multiple apartment buildings, a hospital, a school and administrative offices.
Other strikes across Ukraine and across the border
A drone strike on a market in Chornomorsk in southern Ukraine killed two people, officials said. In a separate series of nighttime attacks, Ukrainian forces reported striking targets in the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. Local officials said a fire broke out at the Sheskharis oil refinery and that a ship and several apartment blocks were hit.
Krasnodar governor Veniamin Kondratyev said three crew members and another man were wounded and that the assault damaged the main oil depot and a container terminal. Mayor Andrei Kravchenko declared a state of emergency, and Reuters reported that oil exports in the area had been halted.
Ukraine's military said it had fired long-range "Neptune" cruise missiles during strikes on Russian territory, without specifying targets. Russia continues to assert its attacks on energy infrastructure are aimed at military facilities; Kyiv rejects that claim.
Impact on Kyiv and wider context
Kyiv's energy infrastructure was badly affected, leaving some buildings without heat, officials said. Ukrainian MP Lisa Yasko described the attacks as massive, with drones and ballistic weapons provoking heavy air-defence activity and shaking buildings across the city.
The strikes followed an earlier offensive less than a week prior that killed six people and damaged homes and energy sites. President Zelensky reiterated his call for "no exceptions" to Western sanctions on Russian energy, even as some countries have granted narrowly tailored exemptions.
