Sunderland Music City is recruiting about 200 pianists for an 11-hour relay concert on 7 December at The Fire Station, aiming to beat the Guinness World Record of 169 pianists. Teams of four (schools, businesses, community or family groups) should apply by noon on 26 November. The inclusive event welcomes all ability levels and will raise funds for Love, Amelia, a charity supporting local families in poverty. Organisers hope the community-driven concert will unite the city and celebrate creativity.
Sunderland Seeks 200 Pianists to Break Guinness World Record in 11‑Hour Relay

Keys of the City: 200 pianists wanted for record‑attempt relay
Sunderland Music City has launched a city-wide search for about 200 pianists to take part in an 11-hour relay concert on 7 December as it aims to beat the Guinness World Record for most pianists in a continuous performance.
When: 08:00–19:00 GMT, 7 December
Where: The Fire Station, High Street West, Sunderland
Each pianist will play a short piece before passing to the next performer, creating an uninterrupted stream of music across the programme. Organisers are asking applicants to register in teams of four to represent schools, businesses, community groups, circles of friends or family units.
"Keys of the City welcomes everyone, from beginners to concert pianists," said Michelle Daurant, CEO of Sunderland Music City. "We want to use music to unite our city, celebrate the power of creativity and raise money for children who need our support."
The event aims to surpass the current Guinness World Record of 169 pianists, set in Hong Kong earlier this year. Proceeds from the concert will benefit Love, Amelia, a local charity supporting Sunderland families living in poverty.
Interested musicians must apply by noon on 26 November. Full application details are available from Sunderland Music City; visit their website or follow Sunderland Music City and BBC Sunderland on social channels for updates and registration information.
Who can take part: All ages and ability levels — schools, businesses and community groups are especially encouraged to enter.
