Glenda Akin has been named the Guinness World Record holder for the "Longest Teacher in the Same School (Female)" after 61 years and 43 days at Westmoreland High School in Tennessee. She began teaching at the Sumner County school in 1963 and retired in September 2024 after serving as a social studies teacher and librarian. The school honored her on Dec. 19, presenting her Guinness certificate and renaming the library the Glenda Akin Library with a commemorative plaque.

Glenda Akin has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records after teaching at Westmoreland High School in Sumner County, Tennessee, for an extraordinary 61 years and 43 days.
Guinness World Records awarded Akin the title "Longest Teacher in the Same School (Female)" on Sept. 13, 2024. Akin began her career at Westmoreland High School in 1963 and retired in September 2024 after decades of service as a social studies teacher and the school's librarian.

Westmoreland High School celebrated her achievement in a Facebook post on Dec. 19, sharing photos from an on-campus recognition where Akin posed with her official Guinness certificate.

Library Dedication and Lasting Legacy
As part of the tribute, the school renamed its library the Glenda Akin Library. A commemorative plaque bearing her photograph reads, "Her six decades of service to our school and community will remain forever cherished in the lives of her coworkers and students."
Although Akin will no longer walk the halls each day, the Guinness recognition and the library dedication ensure her influence on students and colleagues endures for years to come.
