26-Year-Old Killed in Far’a Refugee Camp Raid as West Bank Tension Escalates

Palestinian officials say 26-year-old Abdel Rahman Darawsha was shot and died after an Israeli raid on the Far’a refugee camp near Tubas. He was taken to Tubas Governmental Hospital and pronounced dead. Separate settler violence injured seven and destroyed property, and the UN says October saw a record high of more than 260 settler attacks in the West Bank. Overall violence has risen sharply since the Gaza war began two years ago.

Palestinian authorities report that Abdel Rahman Darawsha, 26, was shot and later died after an Israeli military operation in the Far’a refugee camp, south of Tubas in the occupied West Bank. The Wafa news agency, citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health, said Darawsha succumbed to gunshot wounds after Israeli forces stormed the camp on Saturday night and opened live fire.

He was transported by a Palestine Red Crescent ambulance to Tubas Governmental Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead. Wafa said Israeli infantry units were deployed at the camp entrance during the operation and that live ammunition was used.

Palestinian authorities also reported raids near Jenin and Ramallah and operations in the northern part of occupied East Jerusalem. In a separate incident on Sunday, roughly 50 Israeli settlers attacked a Bedouin community east of the village of Jaba near East Jerusalem, injuring seven Palestinians and burning properties, according to Wafa. Another Palestinian was wounded in a settler attack in Umm al-Khair, south of Hebron.

UN context: The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said October recorded the highest monthly number of settler attacks in the occupied West Bank since monitoring began in 2006, with more than 260 incidents — an average of about eight per day.

Violence across the Palestinian territories has surged since the Gaza war began in October two years ago. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in that period, while official Israeli figures record 43 Israelis, including soldiers, killed in attacks by Palestinians in the West Bank during the same timeframe.

There was no immediate comment reported from Israeli authorities.
