New Phone Data Fuels Debate Over Isak Andic’s Death as Police Question Accidental-Fall Theory

Twenty-one months after the death of Mango founder Isak Andic, fresh forensic data extracted from his mobile phone has added momentum to a high-profile investigation and intensified the dispute between prosecutors and the defense. Catalonia’s regional police force, the Mossos d'Esquadra, expanded their analysis to cover the full 12 months leading up to Andic’s death on 14 December 2024, and say the new material casts doubt on one explanation for the tragedy.

According to sources cited by El Periódico, the expanded extraction supports the view that Andic was in good health during the period under review. Investigators report that the fall he suffered on 20 February 2024 at Mutua Universal’s Barcelona offices was not the result of an underlying physical ailment.

The defense for Andic’s eldest son, Jonathan Andic—who has been accused of his father’s homicide—argues the February incident and the fatal fall on the Collbató trail in Montserrat share similarities consistent with osteoarthritis in Andic’s knees. In support of that claim, the defense submitted an expert report from attorney Cristóbal Martell, which describes:

“A fall pattern characterized by sudden loss of balance, progressive forward tilt, an ineffective stepping strategy, absence of the parachute reflex, and lateral drift to the right,” and argues that “an identical fall on the mountain could have produced the same injuries.”
Police and forensic investigators, however, regard the two episodes as unrelated. A full phone extraction carried out by the Martorell Investigation Unit reportedly found “no relevance whatsoever” linking the Mutua Universal lunch fall to the Collbató incident, concluding Andic was in generally good health. At the same time, the judge overseeing the case, Raquel Nieto, authorised an expanded extraction in July specifically to search for conversations, messages or other content that might shed light on Andic’s health or state of mind in the year before his death.

Medical Records and Ongoing Inquiries
Acting at the prosecutor’s request, Judge Nieto also asked the Institut Català de la Salut for Andic’s medical, treatment and pharmacological records to verify whether his degree of osteoarthritis could plausibly explain an accidental fall. The defense used security camera footage and a video of the February lunch to reconstruct that incident and argue its similarities with the mountain fall, noting for example the absence of palm injuries.
Despite the new phone material, several questions remain. Key witnesses who were expected to testify over the summer have not yet appeared, including Mango CEO Toni Ruiz and an interpreter who previously assisted therapist Julia Lüderwaldt. Investigators say some of the newly extracted data "would support the hypothesis that the Collbató fall was intentional," a conclusion that directly conflicts with the defense’s accidental-fall theory based on medical explanations.
The case continues to develop as authorities review digital evidence and medical records and await testimony from outstanding witnesses. Both sides are publicly asserting interpretations that support their respective narratives, and the court-authorised forensic work aims to clarify whether the Collbató fall was the result of an accident, a medical event, or deliberate action.
