Public lands across the United States are facing renewed pressure from federal proposals to lease, sell, or repurpose areas for mineral extraction, oil and gas development, housing, and other uses. In response, outdoor users and conservation advocates have pushed back through calls, emails, and protests — and those public responses helped defeat high-profile sell-off efforts such as last summer's “Big Beautiful Bill.”
To make it easier for people to find and respond to agency proposals, mapping-and-outdoor-tech company onX has launched the Public Land Comment Hub. The free online tool aggregates active public comment periods and agency-wide proposals from the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Park Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service into a single, searchable resource.
What the Hub Does
The Public Land Comment Hub helps hunters, anglers, hikers, off‑roaders, backcountry skiers, and other public-land users:
- Discover proposals and comment opportunities that could affect the places where they recreate
- View decisions geographically on a map and filter by federal agency
- Read concise summaries of proposed actions and see approaching deadlines
- Follow direct links to official federal agency portals to submit comments
At the time of publication, the Hub lists 62 open comment periods nationwide, covering a wide range of topics from the Wild Bird Conservation Act to proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act, marine-mammal rules in Alaska, and oil-and-gas leasing proposals that could affect off-roading and other recreational uses.
