A DoorDash driver in Roseville, Michigan, was allegedly carjacked on June 23 around 1 p.m. while delivering near Pinehurst and Biehl. The driver chased the vehicle, briefly jumped into it, then fell out as the suspect fled and crashed through a neighbor’s fence. The suspect later abandoned the car and was arrested after a short foot chase near 12 Mile and Utica.
The driver declined medical transport; charges including carjacking are pending with an arraignment scheduled for June 26.
A DoorDash delivery driver in Roseville, Michigan, was allegedly the victim of a carjacking while making a delivery on Tuesday, June 23. The driver attempted to retake the vehicle and briefly jumped into the moving car before falling out, witnesses and police said.
According to WXYZ and Roseville police, the incident occurred at about 1 p.m. near the intersection of Pinehurst and Biehl. Customer Anna Weiser, who was waiting for her order, told reporters she noticed something was wrong and watched the driver discover someone entering his vehicle without permission.
Police say the suspect then took control of the car. Rather than surrendering the vehicle, the DoorDash worker chased after it, leapt into the moving car and was soon thrown from it onto the pavement. Video of the sequence was shared with local media.
Roseville police say the alleged carjacker continued driving and crashed through a neighbor’s fence before abandoning the vehicle. Property owner Lena Andriths said she discovered the damaged fence when the car pulled into her driveway and immediately called 911.
"Apparently, it was a carjacking gone bad," Andriths told WXYZ. "Thank goodness there were no little kids running around. Thank goodness no one was walking their dogs down this strip."
Officers arrested the suspect after a brief foot chase near 12 Mile and Utica roads. The man, who has not been publicly identified, faces multiple felony charges including carjacking and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, June 26. Authorities noted that, under certain circumstances, a carjacking conviction in Michigan can carry severe penalties, including life in prison.
The DoorDash driver was injured during his attempt to regain control of the vehicle but declined medical transport at the scene. Police continue to investigate the incident and pursue charges related to the alleged carjacking and subsequent events.
