Dayton police say a man allegedly drove a stolen Toyota SUV through an active crash scene the night of Sept. 3, fled on foot, then stole a patrol car and crashed it through a house on Greenway Street. Seven officers were injured during the arrest; six were treated and released. Two residents of the damaged home were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the suspect is also linked to a Miami Township homicide and a Moraine aggravated robbery; prosecutors will determine charges.

Authorities say a man allegedly sped through an active crash scene in a stolen Toyota SUV, fled on foot, then seized a Dayton police cruiser and drove it through an occupied house in a dramatic late-night incident that left seven officers injured.
The episode began at about 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 3 at West Third Street and Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton Police and Fire reported. According to authorities, a Toyota SUV ignored multiple parked police cruisers and vehicles from the earlier collision, crossed left of center, knocked down a street sign and continued at high speed through the scene.

Short Pursuits End In House Crash
Officers engaged the SUV and used a pursuit-termination technique to stop it in less than two minutes. The driver allegedly ran into a fenced, heavily vegetated backyard and evaded immediate capture. He then returned to the disabled Toyota, reportedly stole a parked Dayton police cruiser and drove off, striking another cruiser as he fled.
A second pursuit—also described by police as lasting under two minutes—ended when the stolen cruiser crashed completely through a house in the 2300 block of Greenway Street. Dramatic dashboard and body-worn camera footage shared by the department captures much of the chaotic sequence.

Arrest, Injuries and Ongoing Investigations
After the crash, the suspect allegedly assaulted an officer, attempted to take that officer's firearm and bit him. Officers used force to subdue and arrest the man as he continued to resist, the department said.
Seven officers were injured during the arrest; six were taken to a hospital as a precaution, treated and released. Two occupants of the home struck by the cruiser were assisted by officers and transported to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The suspect was also taken to a local hospital; police did not disclose his condition.
Dayton police said the unnamed adult male is also suspected in a Miami Township homicide and an aggravated robbery in Moraine that involved the same Toyota SUV. The Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office will determine charges related to each incident. After criminal prosecutions conclude, the department's Professional Standards Bureau will review the entire encounter.
