Cash and mobile phones were reportedly left behind, and neighbors noted a mattress was missing while a relatively new box spring remained — an unusual detail investigators flagged.
Neighbor's 911 Call
Records of a 911 call obtained by local media show a neighbor identifying himself as Maurice (reported variously as Smith or Simmons) telling dispatchers that Cac had a "crazy ex‑boyfriend" who reportedly had been on the run for months. The neighbor said he had spoken with Aurelia the evening before the family vanished and that she gave no sign she intended to leave.

Investigative Status
The Mobile County Sheriff's Office said it believes the family may have been taken against their will. Police interviewed and later cleared a person initially identified as a person of interest; no other persons of interest have been publicly named. Sheriff Burch confirmed that Aurelia and Niurka had received final deportation orders in April.
Family plea: The family's oldest daughter, Lorena, pleaded publicly for their safe return: "Whoever did this, please bring my little brother home. I'm waiting for them to come home with the little baby."
