Miami Recycling-Bin Murder Suspect Arrested in Mexico, Extradited to U.S.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office announced that 32-year-old Alfredo Carballo Gonzalez has been arrested in Mexico and extradited to Miami in connection with the death of Daylon Fleitas Gonzalez. The arrest on Jan. 27 ends a months-long international manhunt.
Investigation and Arrest
Mexican authorities took Carballo Gonzalez into custody on Jan. 27; he was returned to Miami the following day, where homicide detectives formally arrested him. Officials have not publicly disclosed his immigration status. Fox News Digital and other outlets reported that federal immigration authorities were contacted for additional details.
What Happened
Authorities say Daylon Fleitas Gonzalez disappeared after meeting with Carballo Gonzalez on Aug. 3, 2025, in Medley, Florida, near Northwest 106th Street and 95th Avenue. According to court records cited by local media, Fleitas had gone to collect $10,000 he claimed the suspect owed him. Detectives say an altercation occurred after Carballo Gonzalez entered the victim’s truck.
Surveillance footage and witness accounts allegedly show Carballo Gonzalez loading a recycling bin into the truck’s bed and driving away. A second vehicle followed; detectives later identified its driver as Ariely Alvarez Cabrera, described as Carballo Gonzalez’s girlfriend.
Discovery and Charges
On Aug. 8, homicide detectives located the victim’s truck and recovered multiple items described as having evidentiary value. During a canvass of the area, investigators recovered the recycling bin and found Fleitas Gonzalez deceased inside. Authorities say Carballo Gonzalez and Alvarez Cabrera fled the area with their 5-month-old infant.
Jail records indicate Carballo Gonzalez faces charges of second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. Alvarez Cabrera faces charges of tampering with physical evidence and being an accessory after the fact. Law enforcement said the infant was recovered safely and returned to Florida. Alvarez Cabrera’s attorney, Bijan Sebastian Parwaresch, was contacted for comment.
Ongoing Matters
Officials have not publicly detailed how or when the suspects traveled to Mexico. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate and has not released additional information about motive beyond the reported dispute over the $10,000 debt.
