Woman Arrested In Mexico, Charged In Boyfriend's Decapitation; Extradited To Orange County

Alyssa Marie Lira, 23, was located in Mexico on Jan. 22 and returned to U.S. custody after authorities say her 55-year-old boyfriend, Enrique Gonzalez-Carbajal, was found decapitated in her Anaheim home on Aug. 25, 2025. Lira faces one count of murder and a felony enhancement for personally using a weapon; the maximum sentence if convicted is 26 years to life. She is being held without bail at the Orange County Jail and is scheduled for arraignment on Feb. 13. Prosecutors have not released a motive; Anaheim investigators worked with the FBI and Mexican authorities to locate and apprehend her.

Alyssa Marie Lira, 23, has been arrested and charged in connection with the Aug. 25, 2025 discovery of her boyfriend, Enrique Gonzalez-Carbajal, 55, who was found decapitated in an Anaheim, California, residence, the Orange County District Attorney's Office said.

Charges And Custody

On Jan. 29, the DA's office announced Lira faces one count of murder and a felony enhancement alleging she personally used a weapon. If convicted on both counts she could face a maximum sentence of 26 years to life. Lira was located in Mexico on Jan. 22, transferred to U.S. custody at the San Ysidro Port of Entry on Jan. 23, and is being held without bail at the Orange County Jail. Her arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 13.

Investigation And International Effort

Anaheim homicide detectives worked with the FBI and Mexican authorities to locate Lira after she was identified as a suspect following the discovery of Gonzalez-Carbajal's body at her home. Authorities have not disclosed any possible motive, and prosecutors declined to provide additional details when contacted by media.

'Nothing — not time, not distance nor foreign borders — will thwart our pursuit of justice,' District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in the office's statement. He added that law enforcement went 'to the very ends of the Earth' to locate the suspect and bring her back to the United States.

Background

At the time of Gonzalez-Carbajal's death, the two had been dating for about two months. The case remains under active investigation as prosecutors prepare for arraignment and further proceedings.
