LAPD officers responded to a welfare check in the 5600 block of Satsuma Avenue at about 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, and discovered the victim deceased. The suspect reportedly flagged down a patrol unit several miles away and told officers he could not reach his wife and that he had been in an altercation with her.

'This appears to be an isolated incident and there's no threat to public safety,' LAPD Officer Tony Im told PEOPLE. Officer Im confirmed the woman, believed to be in her 50s, was the victim of a homicide and said the suspect has been taken into custody but has not yet been formally booked.
'The incident happened off duty and offsite,' Domenica Megerdichian, an assistant to the Glendale city manager, said. The Glendale City Manager's Office confirmed the detained man is a member of the Glendale Fire Department; his name has not been released publicly.
