A Los Angeles-area firefighter is accused of fatally beating his wife after allegedly reading her diary, authorities say.

Police responded to a welfare check at a North Hollywood home and found 55-year-old Mayra Jimenez dead at the scene from blunt-force trauma, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Investigators identified her 45-year-old husband, Andrew Jimenez, a firefighter-paramedic with the Glendale Fire Department, as the suspected attacker.

Arrest And Investigation

The LAPD said the incident is being investigated as domestic violence. Andrew Jimenez was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held on $2 million bail, though it was not immediately clear whether formal charges had been filed. Local outlets reported that investigators believe the victim was beaten with an axe.

Attorney Statement And Alleged Diary

“Our office is currently in contact with law enforcement regarding a diary of the decedent, apparently read moments before the homicide, that verified infidelity by the decedent,” the suspect's attorney told local stations, according to media reports.

The Glendale Fire Department, which has employed Andrew Jimenez since 2008, placed him on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Victim Background And Resources

Before her death, Mayra Jimenez served as a union representative for United Teachers Los Angeles. The case remains under active investigation by the LAPD, and details may change as authorities review evidence and conduct interviews.
