Four Arrested After Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators Rush Zara on Fifth Avenue During Black Friday

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators entered a Zara on Fifth Avenue during Black Friday, prompting police to arrest four people. Protesters—about 70 in total—blew whistles, waved a Palestinian flag and accused the retailer of complicity in violence. Police removed protesters from the store; the group later marched south on Fifth Avenue and chanted outside a Microsoft store. An NYPD investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Police arrested four people after a group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators briefly entered a Zara store on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan during Black Friday shopping. Officers said roughly 70 protesters had been participating in a planned boycott action when several individuals pushed into the store, blowing whistles and carrying a Palestinian flag.

Video from the scene captured protesters shouting and confronting store staff. One woman could be heard shouting, "They fund the genocide, Free Palestine!" while another said, "ZARA is a genocidal company," as she blew a whistle.

The New York Police Department responded to the demonstration and quickly escorted the individuals out of the store before making arrests. By 4 p.m., officials said the group was continuing to march south along the sidewalk of Fifth Avenue, loudly calling for a boycott of retailers.

Later footage showed the same demonstrators chanting outside a nearby Microsoft store. A passerby was also recorded shouting an expletive at the protesters before walking away. Authorities said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and did not immediately release additional details on the arrests.

Context: The demonstration took place amid heightened tensions surrounding protests in the city and comes as holiday shopping and public demonstrations intersect on a heavily trafficked commercial corridor.
