Walz Fires Back: "Release the MRI Results" After Trump's Offensive Slur

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz shot back at Donald Trump after the former president used an offensive slur, posting a one-line reply on X: "Release the MRI results." The exchange came amid Trump’s renewed attacks on Somali immigrants and Rep. Ilhan Omar and followed a fatal shooting near the White House that prompted stepped-up screening of some green card holders. Trump said he had an MRI in October and called the results "perfect," but has not disclosed what was scanned; outside physicians and observers have pressed for more information.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz pushed back sharply after Donald Trump used an offensive slur aimed at the governor during a late-night Thanksgiving post. Walz’s terse response — a screenshot of Trump’s message on X with the four-word reply “Release the MRI results” — drew attention to questions about Trump’s recent medical disclosure.

In his Thanksgiving post, Trump criticized Walz’s stance on Somali immigrants and called the governor “seriously ret---ed.” The post came amid broader comments by Trump about immigration, crime and a promise to “permanently pause migration” from what he described as “all Third World Countries.” He also renewed attacks on Minnesota’s Somali community and Representative Ilhan Omar, and threatened to terminate Temporary Protected Status for Somalis living in Minnesota.

Walz, 61, responded on X with the single-line challenge after Trump — who publicly said he underwent an MRI in October and described the results as "perfect" — declined to disclose what part of his body was scanned or why the test was performed.

Context: Shooting Near the White House and Heightened Screening

The exchange followed a deadly shooting near the White House in which two National Guard members were critically injured; 20-year-old National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom has since died. Authorities identified the suspect as an Afghan national who arrived in the United States in 2021. Officials say his asylum application was approved earlier this year and that he had worked with U.S. forces during the Afghanistan war, including in roles that required vetting by security services.

In response to the shooting, the White House announced stepped-up screening for certain green card holders from "countries of concern."

Questions About the MRI and the President’s Fitness

Trump’s disclosure about an October MRI and his upbeat public description of the results have prompted outside physicians and commentators to press for more detail. The White House released a brief memo after the October medical visit and omitted any mention of a cognitive test; it did not specify what was imaged. Independent physicians have publicly questioned the firmness of the assessment and asked for clarification.

Separately, critics and some journalists have noted signs they say raise questions about the leader’s stamina and on-camera presence, including a reduced public schedule that often begins later in the day and fewer events than in prior years. Journalist Katy Tur has said she observed moments that suggested a decline in pace and energy.

The White House did not provide further details about the MRI when asked. Requests for comment were not answered at the time of publication.
