Latin Grammy Winner Bobby Pulido’s Decade-Old Video Defacing Trump’s Hollywood Star Resurfaces During Congressional Bid

Bobby Pulido, a Tejano singer and multiple Latin Grammy nominee, faces renewed scrutiny after a decade-old Instagram video showed him defacing President Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Pulido left music in 2024 to run for Texas’ 15th Congressional District and has raised about $306,000 this cycle. He will challenge two-term Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz, who won re-election in 2024 with 57.1% of the vote. Since announcing his bid, Pulido has removed several combative social posts related to conservatives.

Latin Grammy Winner Bobby Pulido’s Decade-Old Video Defacing Trump’s Hollywood Star Resurfaces During Congressional Bid

Nearly a decade before launching a bid for public office, Tejano singer Bobby Pulido recorded himself defacing President Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The clip, originally posted to Instagram, shows Pulido urinating on the plaque with the caption, "when you gotta go, you gotta go." The footage has resurfaced as Pulido campaigns for Texas’ 15th Congressional District.

Campaign and background

Pulido, a Tejano musician known for songs such as "Desvelado" and "Se Murió de Amor," is a multiple Latin Grammy nominee who reportedly won Best Tejano Album in 2022 and 2025. He announced in 2024 that he would step back from his music career to run for Congress. Pulido has positioned himself as a bipartisan, South Texas-focused candidate and has said he is "not team red or team blue."

Race details and fundraising

Pulido has filed to run in Texas’ 15th District and will challenge two-term Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz, who won re-election in 2024 with 57.1% of the vote to her challenger’s 42.9%. Federal Election Commission filings for the third quarter show Pulido has raised approximately $306,000 this cycle.

Controversies resurfaced

Since announcing his candidacy, Pulido has removed several contentious posts from his social accounts, including the Hollywood star footage. Other past posts and public acts that have attracted attention include a 2016 social post that labeled parts of Texas politically as "Blue = smart" and "Red = neck," a 2018 screenshot urging his son to vote for a Democratic Senate candidate, and an appearance in 2025 in a graphic costume styled to resemble President Trump that drew criticism from some quarters.

"You may know me as Bobby Pulido the singer. I am José Roberto Pulido Jr., the son of a migrant farmworker and 100% South Texas Tejano," Pulido said in his campaign launch video. "I’m not team red or team blue. South Texas, I’m team you."

Reports indicate party leaders encouraged Pulido to enter the race, and archived snapshots preserve original coverage of the resurfaced Instagram clip after it was removed from its initial posting. Pulido’s campaign did not provide a comment on the resurfaced video or the social posts when contacted.

What this means

The resurfacing of decade-old content underscores how past public behavior can affect modern political campaigns, especially for high-profile challengers attempting to broaden their appeal. Voters in the 15th District will weigh Pulido’s musical legacy, fundraising, and public record alongside his stated focus on local concerns as the campaign unfolds.
