Turning Point USA Says Backing for a JD Vance 2028 Bid Is “In the Works,” CEO Erika Kirk Confirms

Erika Kirk told The Megyn Kelly Show that Turning Point USA is preparing to back a potential JD Vance 2028 presidential bid, calling those plans “in the works.” She said she assumed leadership of the group after the death of her husband, Turning Point co-founder Charlie Kirk, and pledged to continue the organization’s work. Kirk stressed the group's immediate priority is the upcoming midterm elections and urged patience before moving focus to 2028. Trump has previously called Vance “most likely” his movement’s heir while also name-checking Marco Rubio.

Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk said the organization is actively preparing to support a potential JD Vance presidential run in 2028, calling those plans “in the works.” She made the remarks on a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show.

Kirk noted that her late husband, Charlie Kirk, had been an early advocate for Vance during discussions around former President Donald Trump’s 2024 vice-presidential selection. After Charlie Kirk’s death in September, Erika Kirk assumed leadership of Turning Point and has pledged to continue the group's work in his memory.

The promise of Turning Point’s backing would be a meaningful asset for any future Vance campaign. Vance is widely seen as a leading heir to Trump’s MAGA movement, though several other high-profile Republicans have quietly positioned themselves as possible contenders for 2028.

Turning Point, which Charlie Kirk co-founded in 2012 and led until his passing, has become an influential force in conservative youth politics and was credited with mobilizing young voters in support of Trump during the 2024 cycle. Erika Kirk emphasized that, despite planning for the longer term, the organization’s immediate priority remains the upcoming midterm elections.

“Let’s start with the midterms before we start jumping to ’28,”

she told Kelly. “And let’s enjoy the fact that we do have Donald Trump in office, and we worked really hard to make that happen—my husband did. So I just want to enjoy that for a minute before we start jumping ahead.”

In August, Trump described Vance as “most likely” the heir to his movement, while also mentioning Senator Marco Rubio and suggesting that Vance and Rubio could at some point appear together on a hypothetical ticket. Erika Kirk’s comments signal that Turning Point is laying groundwork for future influence, but that its short-term efforts will focus on next year’s races.
