Beloved Mother and Cupcake Shop Co-Owner Killed in Auburn Collision with School Bus

Jennifer Cooper, 42, co-owner of Gigi's Cupcakes in Auburn and Columbus, Ga., was killed when her car collided with a school bus on Nov. 18 near East University Drive in Auburn. First responders arrived quickly, but Cooper was pronounced dead; no other injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation. Auburn City Schools confirmed students on the bus were safely transported and offered condolences. Jennifer Cooper, 42, a mother and co-owner of Gigi's Cupcakes, died after her vehicle collided with a school bus on Tuesday, Nov. 18, near the 1000 block of East University Drive in Auburn, Alabama.

First responders from the Auburn Police Department, the Auburn Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and rendered aid, but Cooper was fatally injured and later pronounced deceased, authorities said. No other injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation.

The Lee County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Jennifer Cooper. Cooper and her husband, Patrick, co-owned Gigi's Cupcakes, which operates locations in Auburn and Columbus, Georgia.

Auburn City Schools issued a statement offering condolences and confirming that all students aboard the bus were safely transported to school and that families were notified directly.

“All of Auburn City Schools grieves this unimaginable tragedy and prioritizes the care and concern for those most affected by the tragic loss of life,” the district said. “We are extremely grateful for the swift response of emergency personnel and pledge cooperation during the process of an ongoing investigation. Our priority and focus are centered on the family and friends most affected.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Cooper’s husband and their children. The fundraiser description calls on the community to provide stability and notes Cooper's impact through her enthusiasm, faith and generosity.

“The family feels your prayers and ask that you continue to cover them as they navigate the next few days. Jennifer loved the Lord and had such a servant's heart. In her honor, will you do something kind for someone?” an update on the fundraiser reads.

Friends, customers and community members who wish to help are encouraged to contribute to the fundraiser and to observe the family's request for privacy as they grieve. Local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
