Jenna Ellis Rebukes Trump for Personal Attack on Rep. Thomas Massie
Jenna Ellis, a former senior legal adviser to President Donald Trump, publicly criticized the president after he mocked Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) for remarrying about a year and a half after the death of his longtime wife.
On Truth Social, Trump derided Massie as "Rand Paul Jr." and posted, "His wife will soon find out that she’s stuck with a LOSER!" He also mocked the timing of Massie’s remarriage and cited polls that put his chances under 8% in the race.
"Did Thomas Massie, sometimes referred to as Rand Paul Jr., get married already??? Boy, that was quick!... His wife will soon find out that she’s stuck with a LOSER!" — President Trump on Truth Social
Massie was married to Rhonda Howard Massie for 31 years until her unexpected death in June 2024. At the time, Massie described her as his "high school sweetheart, the love of my life for over 35 years" and the devoted mother of their four children. He recently announced he remarried Carolyn Grace Moffa roughly a year and a half after Rhonda's passing.
Ellis, who says she has been friends with Massie for more than a decade, took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out the president's remarks. She praised Massie’s faith, resilience and courage for finding love and joy again and wrote that some matters should remain beyond political attacks. "Some things are still sacred and should still be beyond this kind of political mud-slinging," she wrote.
Massie has drawn Trump’s ire previously, in part because he is among lawmakers advocating for the release of additional files related to the late Jeffrey Epstein. But Ellis and others described Trump’s latest comments as unusually personal and harsh given Massie’s recent bereavement and remarriage.
Ellis’s own history with Trump provides context to her rebuke: she served as a senior legal adviser to Trump’s 2020 campaign and later joined efforts seeking to challenge the official 2020 election results. Her involvement led to legal consequences — she agreed to a plea deal in Georgia and accepted a three-year suspension of her Colorado law license.
The exchange highlights the increasingly personal tenor of intra-party disputes as the 2024–25 campaign season continues. Supporters of Massie praised his decision to remarry as a private, human matter deserving compassion rather than ridicule.
