In May 2025, Boca Raton police arrested a woman after a jewelry store employee flagged a mismatch between a scanned driver's license barcode and the payment card during an attempted $12,300 Rolex Submariner purchase. The suspect gave the name "Emily" but a portable fingerprint scanner returned information inconsistent with that identity. Booking records identify her as Alina Arencibia, who faces three fraud-related charges with $5,000 bonds on each count. Bodycam footage shows the investigation but does not determine guilt.

In May 2025, a Boca Raton jewelry store employee became suspicious when a customer tried to buy a $12,300 Rolex Submariner using identification that did not fully check out.

What Happened

Store staff initially saw the photo ID and the payment card as appearing to match, but when an employee scanned the driver's license barcode into the store's system it returned a different name and address. The employee told police the payment card had not yet been charged.

When an officer first approached the customer, she gave the name "Emily" and insisted the license photo was of her. Asked why the scanned information did not match what she provided, she said she did not know and then asked whether she could leave. The officer detained her and later read her Miranda rights before continuing to question her.

Fingerprint Scan And Arrest

Officers told the woman another unit was bringing a portable fingerprint scanner to verify her identity. While waiting, they placed her in handcuffs. Body-camera footage shows police speaking with an Uber driver who had arrived to collect a passenger identified as "Lena," and informing the driver that the passenger would not be leaving with him.

After an officer used a portable fingerprint scanner, the identifying information returned did not match the identity the woman had presented in the store. Officers compared additional records and then informed her she was under arrest.

Booking Details

Palm Beach County booking records identify the suspect as Alina Arencibia. She was booked by Boca Raton police on May 7, 2025, on three counts: fraudulent use of a credit card (Florida Statute 817.61); possession or display of a blank, forged, or stolen driver’s license or identification (Section 322.212(1)(a)); and providing false identification to a law-enforcement officer (Section 901.36(1)). The record lists a $5,000 bond for each count.

Context And Legal Note

The body-camera footage documents the investigation and arrest, not a finding of guilt. I was unable to independently verify the later disposition of the Palm Beach County case from publicly accessible court records.
