Opponents of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei have circulated a sharply critical brief to White House contacts in the run-up to a planned dinner between Amodei and President Donald Trump, according to an Axios review of the document.

A Sunday evening meeting could offer a path to repair relations after roughly a year of tension between Anthropic and parts of the administration — but the circulated brief aims to shape the president's impression before the conversation begins.
What the brief says
The paper, which is not an internal White House memo, characterizes Amodei as having 'a long record of attacking Trump' and as possessing 'deep Democratic ties.' It points to Anthropic's earlier split with the Pentagon as a 'clear example' the authors say shows Amodei's distrust of President Trump.
'Dario claimed that AI would eliminate half of all entry-level white-collar jobs as soon as this year. WRONG!'
According to a source familiar with White House procedures, the brief appears crafted to reach the president and is likely to get in front of him; however, the document's origin remains unclear. The brief also adopts what it calls 'Trump Talk' — language intended to resonate with the president's preferred style.
Between the lines
The document's authors seem to be appealing to a president who prizes loyalty and public praise. They are trying to frame Amodei as politically opposed to Trump and as someone who has previously mishandled interactions with the administration.
Anthropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Even so, the White House has been prioritizing relationships with leading AI firms as it seeks a seat at the table in shaping the future of the technology.
