The network had been slated to travel on the president's plane to Tennessee to cover a college football game as part of the White House television pool, CNN reported. A White House note outlining the day's press schedule omitted CNN from the roster.
The omission is the latest episode in a widening dispute between the administration and major US news organisations after the White House recently barred certain reporters from its grounds. Last week, the White House moved to revoke access for CNN, MSNBC and Politico, accusing those outlets of spreading false information.
That earlier action prevented CNN from carrying out its scheduled pool duties while Mr. Trump travelled to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. A judge subsequently ordered the White House to temporarily restore access for reporters from the three outlets pending further proceedings.
Pool Coverage: The five principal US broadcasters — ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC — typically rotate responsibility for providing pool footage of presidential events, which is then shared with other news organisations.
CNN said it was left off the White House roster on Saturday despite being assigned to the pool flight. The network described the omission as part of an escalating dispute over press access.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions over press access and the relationship between the White House and major media organisations. It remains unclear whether CNN will be added to the roster before the scheduled trip.
