IDF Orders Heightened Readiness Across All Fronts Ahead of Yom Kippur

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has instructed units to increase readiness across all fronts for Yom Kippur under the direction of Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir.
Additional reinforcement companies will join troops already deployed in the Northern, Central and Southern Commands. A senior commander will be present in each sector throughout the holiday to coordinate operations and responses.
The Israeli Air Force will operate with a larger complement of armed aircraft, while the Navy will increase the number of missile boats at sea and intensify routine security patrols along Israel's maritime and coastal boundaries. Reserve companies have been strengthened and designated to move between commands if circumstances require.
General Staff-level alert statuses will be set and adjusted according to developments in each sector. In the Home Front Command, a major general will be on duty at headquarters, and each district will have a district commander on active duty to oversee civil-defence readiness and local coordination.

The IDF stressed that the newly assigned units are supplementary to — not replacements for — the forces already stationed in each sector. The measures are intended to protect communities, strengthen the security barrier where necessary, and prepare for a range of potential scenarios.
These preparations follow Zamir's announcement at the end of August that the alert level in the West Bank had been raised ahead of the holiday period amid heightened tensions. He ordered active units and battalions to be prepared for rapid reinforcement missions and emphasized that there would be no operational pauses or reductions in combat formations during the holidays. "The IDF will remain on multi-front readiness," he said.
Two years ago, hours before Yom Kippur began, the IDF similarly reinforced the Central Command with several combat companies to bolster community defenses and the security barrier amid heightened security tensions.
