Jeremy Clarkson's Prostate Cancer Disclosure Drove 30,000 Website Visits — Partner Says It Encouraged Others To Get Checked

Jeremy Clarkson has said he is in remission after being diagnosed last year with what doctors described as an "aggressive" form of prostate cancer. His decision to reveal the diagnosis on Clarkson's Farm prompted a large public response and renewed debate about prostate screening in Britain.

How The Diagnosis Unfolded

Clarkson's diagnosis began after a routine blood test in May last year showed unusually high prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. He then had the Stockholm3 test, a more sensitive screening tool that is available privately for up to £500 and is reported to detect more than twice as many aggressive cancers as standard screening. That result led to further investigation and a confirmed diagnosis; Clarkson subsequently underwent surgery to remove a tumour and is now in remission.

Public Reaction And Impact

Clarkson chose to share his experience on an episode of Clarkson's Farm. Lisa Hogan, his partner of nine years, told the Daily Star Sunday that the decision was made "to help everybody else." She said the episode prompted a surge of interest: "When the show came out, Prostate Cancer UK had 30,000 people going to their website in one day."

"I'm really happy he caught his prostate cancer early and I'm really proud of him for putting it on the show, because that was a really big decision," Hogan said. She added that producer Andy Wilman encouraged Clarkson to allow the footage so it might prompt others to seek checks.

Screening Debate And New Trial

The disclosure has intensified discussion about access to prostate cancer testing in the UK. Prostate cancer is the country's most commonly diagnosed cancer, yet there is no national population screening programme. Campaigners and some media outlets have pushed for targeted screening for men at higher risk — including Black men, those with a family history, and men who carry high-risk genes.

Separately, it was announced that the Stockholm3 test — available privately since 2023 — will be offered to up to 10,000 men at a subsidised price of £99 as part of a study, widening access to the more sensitive test for some men.

Personal Support And Advocacy

Hogan said speaking openly also helped Clarkson cope: "Yes, of course it was a terrible worry. But what I did encourage him to do was to talk to his friends. He didn't want to initially, but he's got lots of friends who've been through the same thing and he's been talking to them about it. I think that's really helped."

Clarkson has used his platform to campaign for ministers to introduce more accessible screening. He also said he spoke with former prime minister David Cameron about their experiences; Clarkson quoted Cameron as saying that many men only sought checks after high-profile figures publicly disclosed their diagnoses.
