The Education Ministry confirmed that every Israeli high school student will begin receiving AI-personalized English lessons from the next school year under Project 720. The phased rollout expands a pilot from 28 schools to 180 nationwide and aims to identify gaps, deliver tailored practice and provide real-time feedback. Officials stress that teachers will retain a central leadership and guidance role, while AI tools support individualized learning and modern skill development.

The Israeli Education Ministry has confirmed that, beginning next school year, all high school students will learn English using personalized lessons powered by artificial intelligence. The move is part of Project 720, a broader effort announced in June to modernize the education system through AI-driven and individualized learning pathways.

From Pilot To Nationwide Rollout

The ministry said the decision follows a trial in 28 schools last year. The program will expand in phases and reach 180 schools across the country in the upcoming implementation stage.

What The AI Will Do

According to the Education Ministry, the AI-based English app and accompanying systems are designed to:

  • Identify learning gaps for each student;
  • Offer tailored exercises and practice;
  • Provide real-time feedback;
  • Continuously adapt instruction to a student’s level and progress.

These features are intended to supplement classroom teaching with targeted practice and diagnostics that adapt as students improve.

"Artificial intelligence-based systems, including the English app, make it possible to identify gaps, offer personalized practice, provide real-time feedback, and adapt learning to each student's level and progress," the Education Ministry said.

Teachers Remain Central

The ministry emphasized that AI tools are meant to support — not replace — teachers. "The teacher's central place is maintained as the leader of the educational process and as someone who provides direction, meaning, and personal guidance," officials said. The initiative also aims to give teachers advanced tools, data and training so they can focus on pedagogy and one-on-one support.

Merav Zarbiv, Director of the Education Ministry's Innovation and Technology Division, said Project 720 "expresses a modern educational concept that puts both the student and the teacher at the center." She added that the change moves the system away from uniform instruction toward a model in which each learner can progress according to their needs while maintaining high standards and developing skills for a changing world.
