Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is preparing to endorse Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, in the Democratic primary for New York's 12th Congressional District, a source told CBS News Saturday. According to people familiar with the matter, the endorsement has been in the works for weeks but has not yet been announced publicly.

Schlossberg, 33, the son of Caroline Kennedy and a first cousin of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., launched his campaign in November. He entered a crowded Democratic primary seeking to replace retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler, joining candidates that include State Assemblymembers Alex Bores and Micah Lasher, attorney George Conway and journalist Jami Floyd.

During the 2024 election cycle, Schlossberg campaigned alongside President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to help the ticket connect with younger voters. He is running a progressive campaign that emphasizes social media and digital outreach.

New York's 12th District is an affluent, Democratic-leaning constituency that encompasses Midtown Manhattan, the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side. If elected, Schlossberg would become at least the seventh member of the extended Kennedy family to serve in Congress.

The New York Times was first to report Pelosi’s expected endorsement; CBS News has a source confirming Pelosi is preparing to make the backing. As of Saturday the endorsement had not been made public.
