U.S. Ambassador Tom Rose publicly threatened to cut off contacts with Polish Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty after Czarzasty refused to support efforts to nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The dispute drew reactions from Poland’s prime minister and president and highlighted a wider rift between the parliament and conservative leaders. It also ties back to Trump’s complaints after losing the 2025 Nobel to María Corina Machado and his contested claims about ending multiple international conflicts.
Diplomatic Fallout: U.S. Ambassador Threatens To Cut Ties After Polish Speaker Rejects Trump’s Nobel Bid

U.S. Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose publicly attacked Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty on X (formerly Twitter) after Czarzasty declined to support efforts to nominate former President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
In a post on Wednesday, Rose warned the United States would “have no further dealings, contacts, or communications” with the speaker, accusing him of making “insults directed against President Trump” and saying Czarzasty had become “a serious impediment to our excellent relations with Prime Minister Tusk and his government.”
“In my opinion, President Trump is destabilizing the situation in these (international) organizations by representing the politics of force and using force to pursue a transactional policy,” Włodzimierz Czarzasty told reporters. “All of this means that I will not support President Trump’s Nobel Prize nomination because he doesn’t deserve it.”
The dispute drew in other senior Polish figures and underscored tensions between Poland’s left-leaning parliament and conservative elements of the state. Poland is a parliamentary republic: the president serves as head of state while the prime minister heads the government and the Council of Ministers.
Right-wing President Karol Nawrocki criticized Czarzasty, saying the ruling coalition had chosen “a man who does not understand the importance and significance of alliances.” By contrast, Prime Minister Donald Tusk publicly rebuked Ambassador Rose’s tone on X: “Mr. Ambassador Rose, allies should respect, not lecture, each other. At least this is how we here in Poland understand partnership.”
Rose, 63, a former right‑wing journalist and adviser to Mike Pence, replied with a sarcastic post aimed at the speaker, accusing him of making “despicable, disrespectful and insulting comments about President Trump” that could damage the government’s relationships. The U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment.
Context
The row traces back to former President Trump’s disappointment after not receiving the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Trump has repeatedly asserted he deserved the award and claimed he helped end “between seven and nine” conflicts globally — a contention met with skepticism from critics.
In January, Trump wrote to Norway: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace.” That exchange coincided with a separate, widely criticized suggestion related to Greenland — a territory of Denmark — and underscored confusion about the Nobel process and international jurisdiction.
