TikTok has been described as "extremely cooperative" by the European Commission amid an ongoing investigation into possible interference in Romania's 2024 elections. Thomas Régnier said the company engaged with the Commission and "has taken a number of measures." The EU opened formal proceedings against TikTok in December 2024 over suspected shortcomings in curbing interference in the Romanian presidential vote. The probe is continuing as officials evaluate whether TikTok's steps are sufficient.
TikTok ‘Extremely Cooperative’ With EU Probe Into Potential Interference in Romania Vote, Spokesperson Says

BRUSSELS, Feb 4 — Social media company TikTok is "extremely cooperative" with the European Commission's ongoing probe into potential interference in Romania's 2024 elections, Commission spokesperson Thomas Régnier said on Wednesday.
"This also shows that when you want to engage with the Commission, we are very happy to engage with you. TikTok is very cooperative. They have taken a number of measures," Régnier told reporters.
In December 2024, the European Union opened formal proceedings against TikTok, alleging the platform may have failed to sufficiently limit election interference during the Romanian presidential vote. The Commission's action is part of broader scrutiny of social media platforms' roles in protecting electoral integrity across member states.
Régnier emphasized that TikTok's willingness to engage and the steps it has reportedly taken are notable, but the investigation remains ongoing as authorities assess whether the measures are adequate. The Commission has not yet published final findings.
