A Robla School District bus carrying about 30–40 elementary students crashed off Raley Boulevard into a creek near McClellan Airport around 7:25 a.m. All students were properly secured, uninjured, and transferred to another bus to be taken to school for parent pickup. The CHP said the driver may have fallen asleep and was taken to a hospital with a complaint of pain; the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Robla School District and CHP are both investigating, and CHP urged motorists to be cautious around school buses.

California Highway Patrol officials and local first responders rescued a group of elementary students after a Robla School District bus crashed and partially plunged into a creek on the morning of Monday, Feb. 2, authorities said.

The crash was reported at about 7:25 a.m. on the 5100 block of Raley Boulevard, near McClellan Airport in Sacramento. Photographs published by local outlets showed the bus hanging off the side of the roadway, with several feet of water beneath it.

CHP and school officials said roughly 30 to 40 children were aboard. "We're grateful to report that all students were properly secured and were not injured," the North Sacramento CHP division wrote on Facebook. All students were transferred to another bus and taken to school, where parents were allowed to pick them up.

The CHP indicated the bus driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The driver was taken to a hospital with a complaint of pain; authorities have not yet officially determined the cause of the crash. The Robla School District's transportation department has opened an internal investigation, and the CHP continues its own probe.

“Getting kids to and from school safely is a shared responsibility,” the CHP wrote, thanking first responders and school staff who ensured students were safe.

The CHP also used the incident to remind motorists to exercise caution around school buses: slow down in school zones, never pass stopped school buses displaying flashing red lights, and stay alert and patient during morning and afternoon hours. School buses are designed to protect passengers when used correctly, but surrounding drivers and careful transport procedures remain critical.

PEOPLE reported it reached out to both the CHP and the Robla School District for additional information.
