The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says Curtis International expanded a recall of Frigidaire miniature refrigerators on Jan. 15, 2026, adding 330,000 units to a 2025 action and bringing the total to 964,000. Regulators warn that internal electrical components may short and ignite surrounding plastic; Curtis has received 26 reports of smoking, sparking, burning and fires. The expansion added 6-can model EFMIS121 (serials A2001–A2310), sold at Target. Affected units were manufactured Jan. 2020–Dec. 2023 and come in multiple colors; owners should stop using affected units and check model/serial numbers.
Frigidaire Mini Fridge Recall Expands to 964,000 Units After Reports of Fires

Frigidaire-branded miniature refrigerators distributed by Curtis International have been recalled again due to potential fire and burn hazards. On Jan. 15, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced an expansion that adds 330,000 units to a 2025 recall, bringing the total to 964,000 affected refrigerators.
Details of the Recall
The recalls stem from a risk that internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite surrounding plastic. Curtis International has received at least 26 reports of appliances 'smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating and catching fire.'
The January 2026 expansion added the 6-can model EFMIS121 (serial numbers A2001–A2310). The earlier 2025 action covered 6- and 9-can models EFMIS129 (A2001–A2308), EFMIS137 (A2001–A2312), EFMIS149 (A2001–A2308) and EFMIS175 (A2001–A2310) when the model number does not include a '-B' or '-C' suffix.
Affected units were manufactured between January 2020 and December 2023 and were sold at major retailers. The EFMIS121 units were available at Target (in stores and online); earlier recalled models were sold at Walmart, Amazon and other retailers. The refrigerators were offered in a range of colors, including red, black, blue, green, white, yellow, pink and silver.
What Owners Should Do
- Immediately stop using any fridge that matches the affected model and serial number ranges.
- Check the label inside the unit for the model and serial number to determine whether your unit is included in the recall.
- Contact Curtis International or the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for instructions on repair, replacement or refund.
- Report any incidents to the CPSC and keep any damaged units separate and unplugged for inspection if requested.
Curtis International did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. The recall notice urges owners to follow safety instructions and to report incidents to the CPSC for further investigation.
