Nearly 200,000 PurSteam Travel Steamers Recalled After Dozens of Burn Injuries — How To Get a Refund

The CPSC has recalled approximately 194,400 PurSteam travel steamers after reports that the devices can expel hot water, causing burn injuries. The recall covers the PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer (Model PS-510, ~75,400 units) and the PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer (Model PS-550, ~119,000 units). Owners should stop using affected units immediately and submit a claim at recall.pursteam.com, providing a photo of the unit with its power cord cut to receive a full refund; replacements are not available.

On Feb. 5, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of about 194,400 PurSteam travel steamers after reports that the devices expelled hot water from their nozzles, causing burn injuries. Consumers who own the affected models should stop using them immediately and submit a recall request to receive a refund.

What Was Recalled

The recall covers two PurSteam travel steamer models:

  • PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer (Model PS-510) — about 75,400 units recalled.
  • PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer (Model PS-550) — about 119,000 units recalled.

Why They Were Recalled

The CPSC says both models can expel hot water from the steam nozzle during use, posing a serious burn hazard. Reported incidents span from December 2020 through 2024:

  • The PS-510 had 80 reports of hot water expulsion, including 14 reports of burn injuries.
  • The PS-550 had 392 reports of hot water expulsion, including 40 burn injuries; two of those were recorded as second-degree burns.

Where And When They Were Sold

Both models were sold online at PurSteam.com, Amazon.com and Walmart.com. Sale periods and typical price ranges were:

  • PS-510: Sold December 2020–April 2025, about $15–$35.
  • PS-550: Sold December 2020–January 2024, about $11–$30.

How To Identify An Affected Unit

Check the label on the bottom of the steamer for the model number and manufacture date code. The PS-510 is white with a triangular-shaped steam vent opening and the 'PurStream' logo beneath a wave-shaped window into the water tank; its label reads Model: PS-510. The PS-550 is white with an oblong-shaped vent opening and a bottom label that reads Model: PS 550.

Impacted manufacture date codes reported by the CPSC include: 2310, 2308, 2305, 2304, 2303, 2212, 2211, 2210, 2203, 2112, 2111, 2110, 0221, 1019 and 4619.

What Owners Should Do Now

  1. Stop using the steamer immediately, even if you have not experienced a problem.
  2. Visit recall.pursteam.com to submit a recall request.
  3. To complete a claim you will need to provide contact information, product information (model number and date code), and a photo of the steamer with its power cord cut to verify destruction. Upload a receipt if available.
  4. PurSteam is offering full refunds only; replacement products are not available at this time. According to the company, refunds may take up to four weeks to process.
