Trump, Leavitt to Brief as White House Intensifies Push to Acquire Greenland

President Trump and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will brief reporters at 1 p.m. EST as the administration intensifies efforts to acquire Greenland from Denmark. Leavitt will recap the president’s first year in his second term and promoted the briefing on X. Trump plans to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos and meet Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and other European allies. The administration announced a 10% tariff on exports from Denmark and seven allied countries starting Feb. 1, with a possible increase to 25%, and said tariffs would remain until a Greenland deal is secured.

President Trump and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will hold a press briefing as the administration steps up efforts to acquire Greenland from Denmark. Leavitt is also expected to offer an overview of the president’s first year in his second term.

“In just one year, President Trump has accomplished more than many presidents do in eight. We’ve never had a president fight harder to deliver on the promises he made to the American people than President Trump,” Leavitt wrote Tuesday on the social platform X. “I’ll recap it all during the Press Briefing today at 1PM. Trump is expected to travel to Davos, Switzerland, later Tuesday to attend the World Economic Forum. He said overnight that he has agreed to meet with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and with other European allies who have objected to the U.S. plan to take control of Greenland.

On Saturday, the president announced a 10% tariff on exports from Denmark and seven allied countries — including France and the U.K. — effective Feb. 1, and said the duty could later be raised to 25%. According to the administration, those import taxes would remain in place until a deal to acquire the Arctic island is reached.
