Live: World Economic Forum in Davos — Trump to Address Leaders Amid Greenland Dispute

World leaders are meeting in Davos for the World Economic Forum to debate geopolitics, technology and trade. President Trump will address the forum Wednesday amid controversy over his proposal for the U.S. to acquire Greenland.

A U.S. Treasury official warned European governments against retaliatory tariffs after Mr. Trump threatened a 10 percent import tax starting Feb. 1 on Denmark and allies that oppose a U.S. takeover. The president is also expected to meet NATO leadership, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and other EU officials during the trip.

World leaders have convened in Davos, Switzerland this week for the World Economic Forum to discuss geopolitics, technology, trade and other pressing global issues.

President Trump is scheduled to address the forum on Wednesday amid growing tensions with European partners over his proposal for the United States to acquire Greenland, the semiautonomous Arctic territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.

A U.S. Treasury official speaking at the forum on Tuesday urged European governments to avoid imposing retaliatory tariffs after Mr. Trump threatened a 10 percent import tax effective Feb. 1 on Denmark and its allies if they do not back a U.S. effort to acquire Greenland.

The president is also expected to hold meetings with NATO leadership, as well as Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and other European Union officials during his visit.
