Tens Of Thousands Join Anti‑ICE 'Weekend Of Action' After Minneapolis Fatality
Protesters gather outside City Hall in Houston, Texas, on Jan. 10, 2026, for a demonstration against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Tens of thousands participated in a nationwide "weekend of action" organized by the ICE Out For Good coalition, with Indivisible among groups coordinating over 1,000 events. Many protests centered on the death of Renee Nicole Goodin in Minneapolis, which federal officials say followed a confrontation with ICE agents. Demonstrations in cities including Austin, Los Angeles and Portland resulted in scuffles and arrests, while political leaders offered sharply divided responses. The events highlighted renewed calls for accountability and clearer oversight of immigration enforcement.

Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of major U.S. cities over the weekend as the ICE Out For Good coalition staged a nationwide "weekend of action." Organizers said more than 1,000 local events were coordinated, with Indivisible among the groups helping lead the effort.

Many demonstrations focused on the recent death of Renee Nicole Goodin in Minneapolis. Federal authorities say Goodin was killed during a confrontation with ICE agents after officials allege she attempted to strike an officer with a vehicle. The circumstances are under investigation and city leaders have called for additional oversight.

Anti-ICE agitators demonstrated Saturday outside a detention facility in Los Angeles, with LAPD making multiple arrests.

"Renee Nicole Good was a wife, a mother of three, and a member of her community. She, and the dozens of other sons, daughters, friends, siblings, parents, and community members who have been killed by ICE, should be alive today," said Leah Greenberg, co-executive director of Indivisible.

The mayor of Minneapolis urged that the state be included in the investigation of the ICE‑involved shooting and criticized the handling of the case by federal authorities, calling for transparency and accountability.

Protests, Confrontations and Arrests

Rallies across the country produced confrontations with police and a number of arrests. In Austin, police detained at least three demonstrators as protests there escalated. In Los Angeles, officers confronted protesters outside an ICE detention facility; the LAPD said multiple arrests followed a dispersal order after demonstrators refused to leave the area.

Portland also saw clashes after an incident in which two people were shot by a federal immigration agent, prompting renewed tensions between federal officers and local demonstrators.

In a post on X, police urged crowds to disperse: "You must leave the area." Videos circulating online showed multiple detentions shortly before evening curfews or dispersal orders were enforced.

Political Reactions

Members of the Trump administration and other conservatives defended ICE operations, saying recent enforcement actions targeted individuals with serious criminal records. Vice President J.D. Vance highlighted a list of people arrested in Minnesota that he said included convicted child rapists and murderers, arguing that arresting and deporting such individuals is critical to national security.

"Arresting and deporting these people is absolutely critical to national security. National Democrats are going to get our law enforcement killed if they don't stop lying about this issue and the people working to keep us safe," Vance wrote on X.

The weekend underscored deep national divisions over immigration enforcement: activists demanded accountability for deaths linked to immigration operations, while administration officials defended ICE's role in targeting criminal offenders. Local authorities and federal agencies now face pressure to clarify facts and ensure a thorough, transparent investigation.
