During a live Fox News segment, Sean Hannity instructed reporter Garrett Tenney to question a marcher at an anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent. The protester condemned ICE and rejected claims that Good intended to strike officers, citing multiple video angles. The exchange ended without the expected confrontation, and Hannity closed by emphasizing legal entry into the U.S. The piece notes a previous on-air awkward moment for Hannity in November involving Stephanie Miller and Epstein-related documents.

Sean Hannity’s attempt to pressure an anti-ICE marcher during a live Fox News segment in Minneapolis unraveled on air Friday, producing a subdued exchange that left the host without the confrontational soundbite he sought.

On the Hannity program, Hannity directed correspondent Garrett Tenney to approach participants in a street march that followed the fatal shooting of 37-year-old mother Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent identified as Jonathan Ross. As Tenney walked alongside the demonstration, Hannity urged him to ask a marcher what the protest was about.

Tenney described the scene as a "DIY marching band going through the city with pots and pans" and then spoke with a participant. Rather than delivering a provocative response, the marcher offered a straightforward denunciation of ICE and the killing.

"I'm just here because I think it's absolutely disgusting what ICE is doing here. I think it's absolutely abhorrent that they're kidnapping people. I'm disgusted that they murdered an innocent human being. The entire thing just absolutely abhors me—it has to stop immediately."

Pressed about widely circulated videos of the shooting, and prompted by Hannity's apparent aim to raise doubts about Good's actions, Tenney asked whether the footage suggested she may have driven toward an officer. The marcher rejected that suggestion, arguing footage from multiple angles showed Good was leaving the scene and saying there was no justification for the killing.

"That's not what it looked like to me at all… Looking at the video from both angles… you can very clearly tell that she is evacuating the scene. There is absolutely no evidence that there's any attempt to drive the vehicle into the officers," the marcher said.

When Tenney asked about the marcher’s view on people living in the country illegally, the participant stated: "They have the right to be here, frankly," and framed the position as a human-rights argument, referencing international norms on freedom of movement.

The short exchange ended on a low-key note: the marcher smiled and displayed a bell he said he'd picked up from someone handing out free items, and the broadcast returned to the studio. Hannity closed the segment by saying, "We are a nation of laws, and a constitutional republic. And if you want to come into the country, do so legally." The on-scene attempt to secure an adversarial interview was widely viewed as having backfired.

This was not the first time Hannity found a planned confrontation going off-script. In November, a segment intended to lampoon liberal radio host Stephanie Miller instead became awkward for the host after Miller criticized Fox News' coverage — or lack thereof — of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, pressing Hannity on the network’s editorial choices and leaving him on the defensive.

Context

The Minneapolis demonstration and the on-air exchange took place amid heightened public scrutiny and community outrage following the shooting of Renee Nicole Good. Video footage and investigations were circulating at the time, and the incident prompted protests and calls for accountability.
