Two people were taken to hospital after a fire destroyed a 3,700-square-foot house owned by NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin’s parents in Stanley, N.C., on Dec. 28. Crews found the victims outside and transported them for possible smoke inhalation. About 45% of the home was fully involved and the structure was a total loss, though expensive cars and racing memorabilia were recovered. Multiple departments (10–15) responded and it took over two hours to extinguish the blaze; Hamlin had not commented.
Two Hospitalized After Fire Destroys Home Owned by NASCAR Star Denny Hamlin’s Family

Two people were hospitalized after a house owned by NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin’s family caught fire in Stanley, North Carolina, on the evening of Dec. 28, authorities and local media report.
First responders arrived shortly after 6:19 p.m. and found both individuals outside the residence. They were transported to a local hospital for evaluation of possible smoke inhalation, according to The Athletic. The victims have not been publicly identified.
Chief David Toomey of the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department confirmed the property belongs to Hamlin’s parents. About 45% of the 3,700-square-foot home was "fully involved" in flames when firefighters reached the scene, and officials said the structure was ultimately a total loss.
What Was Saved
“They had some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia and stuff, so all that was saved,” Chief Toomey told The Athletic. “We were able to save all that and get it out so it wasn’t damaged.”
Because the house sits in a remote, wooded area without nearby fire hydrants, between 10 and 15 fire departments responded. WRAL reported it took firefighters more than two hours to fully extinguish the blaze.
Hamlin had not issued a public comment about the fire as of Monday morning. In October, Hamlin told the Associated Press that his 75-year-old father is seriously ill and is dying; the driver became emotional while testifying in a recent antitrust trial that drew national attention.
Authorities have not released additional details about the cause of the fire or the current conditions of the hospitalized individuals. Investigators and local officials are expected to provide updates as they become available.
