Terrifying Footage: Out‑of‑Control MTA Bus Plows Into Cars Across Six Blocks in the Bronx, Injuring Eight

An out-of-control Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bus crashed into multiple vehicles in the Bronx on Monday, injuring eight people, authorities said.
The New York City Fire Department reported the collision occurred shortly before 2 p.m. between Caldwell Avenue and Trinity Avenue. Police say the bus struck six vehicles over roughly six blocks as it traveled through the neighborhood.
Two of the struck vehicles were in front of a school at East 163rd Street and Caldwell Avenue: one was pushed into a light pole and another was struck on its side. Further along the route, an SUV was shoved onto the sidewalk and the rear of a blue coupe was heavily damaged.
Video recorded from inside the bus captured panicked passengers screaming as the vehicle began to lose control. The bus driver and seven passengers sustained injuries and were transported to Lincoln Medical Center; their conditions have not been publicly disclosed.
Investigation Under Way
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The MTA and law enforcement officials are examining several possible factors, including mechanical failure, adverse weather and the driver’s medical condition, WABC reported. Police sources told WABC that the driver was ascending a hill and accelerated when the bus reportedly experienced a mechanical problem; investigators said the driver may then have hit the emergency brake, causing the vehicle to slide out of control.
What officials have said: Authorities are continuing their probe and have not released definitive findings. Local officials urged anyone with additional video or information to come forward to assist the investigation.
Officials have not released further details about the injured or any potential charges. The MTA has said it will cooperate with investigators as they determine the cause of the crash.
