Pilar Weidman, 34, unexpectedly delivered a baby boy in a Carl's Jr. parking lot in Arizona in May 2024 after a nearby medical center turned the couple away for lacking a maternity ward. The baby, named David, weighed 6 lbs. 5 oz and was delivered in the car before first responders arrived to assist. Well-wishers playfully suggested naming him 'Carl,' but his parents kept the name they had chosen. Carl's Jr. later sent the family a gift basket and invited them for a complimentary meal.

Pilar Weidman, 34, unexpectedly delivered a baby boy in a Carl's Jr. parking lot in Arizona in May 2024 after a nearby medical center turned the couple away because it had no maternity ward. The realtor and mother of four said she had been getting ready to go out when contractions intensified so quickly she 'waited until the last minute.'

Pilar and her husband, Dustin, raced to the medical center but were told it could not accommodate labor patients. Back in the car, Pilar said the pain was 'excruciating' and that she 'couldn’t even scream.' As Dustin drove on, Pilar realized she could no longer wait and instructed him to pull over. They stopped in the nearest accessible spot — a Carl’s Jr. parking lot — and Dustin called 911.

With emergency help on the way and a single powerful push, Pilar gave birth to a healthy baby boy who weighed 6 lbs. 5 oz. First responders arrived and assisted the family at the scene; Pilar later quipped about the 'tall, incredibly good-looking firefighters' who helped them.

Playful Naming Debate and a Generous Gesture

Onlookers and well-wishers jokingly suggested naming the newborn after the site of his arrival, urging the parents to call him 'Carl.' The couple, however, had already chosen the name David and decided to keep it.

'It was a crazy day,' Pilar later wrote on social media, thanking the first responders and friends who supported them.

Carl's Jr. learned of the unusual birth and reached out to the Weidman family, sending a gift basket with baby items and gift cards and inviting them for a complimentary meal. A company spokesperson congratulated the family and welcomed David for his 'first real Carl’s Jr. meal' on the house.

The family is now settling in with newborn David after his memorable and unexpected arrival in that Arizona parking lot.
