Father Charged in Murder of 15‑Day‑Old Baby in Portland After Months‑Long Investigation

Baby Arlo Darnielle‑Arroyo was hospitalized on May 4 and died four days later at 15 days old. A medical examiner ruled the infant's death a homicide caused by blunt‑force trauma, prompting a PPB Homicide Unit investigation. On Dec. 8, U.S. Marshals arrested 38‑year‑old Felipe Arroyo Jr., who was later indicted on multiple charges including three counts of second‑degree murder. Police say the case will be recorded as Portland's 13th homicide of 2025; tips can be sent to homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov (Case 25‑116240).

An Oregon father has been arrested and charged in the death of his newborn son after a months‑long homicide investigation, authorities said.

Baby Arlo Darnielle‑Arroyo was admitted to a Portland hospital on May 4, 2025, with what police described as "suspicious" and life‑threatening injuries. He died in the hospital four days later, on May 8, at just 15 days old, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said.

A medical examiner later ruled the death a homicide caused by blunt‑force trauma, and the PPB Homicide Unit opened an investigation.

On Dec. 8, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested 38‑year‑old Felipe Arroyo Jr. He was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and formally charged, the PPB said.

Grand Jury Indictment

In November, prosecutors with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office presented evidence to a grand jury, which returned an indictment that lists multiple counts: three counts of Second‑Degree Murder, one count of First‑Degree Assault, two counts of First‑Degree Criminal Mistreatment, two counts of Attempted Coercion and one count of Witness Tampering, according to the police release.

Legal presumption: Arroyo is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Police said the fatality will be recorded as Portland's 13th homicide of 2025 and raises the city's total to 45 for the year.
