Armed Homeowner Confronts Viral Dare: Three Florida Teens Arrested Over TikTok 'Door Kick' Challenge

Three teenagers in St. Johns County, Florida, were arrested on Nov. 23 after taking part in a viral TikTok "door kick" challenge that encourages people to aggressively kick or bang on random residential doors before fleeing. The disturbance prompted a homeowner on Sweetbrier Branch Lane to call police, reporting someone was "attempting to kick their door in."

Audio of the emergency call indicates the complainant did not see any weapons on the youths, but said her husband was prepared to open the door with a firearm. Video from the neighborhood shows the group visiting multiple homes that night.

"You guys want to get shot by a homeowner when you're kicking their door, and they think you're breaking in to kill them?" an officer asked the teens, according to footage from the scene.

Authorities charged the three with loitering and prowling; one teen also faces a criminal mischief charge for property damage. Law enforcement warned that what may seem like an online prank can quickly escalate into a dangerous, potentially life-changing situation when homeowners believe their safety is threatened.

Why this matters

Participating in viral dares that involve trespassing or threatening behavior can lead to criminal charges and put both participants and residents at risk. Officials urge families and young people to think critically about online trends and the real-world consequences of taking part in them.
