Three people have died and a fourth is in critical condition after a catamaran capsized on the Caloosahatchee River in Florida on Saturday, Nov. 29.

The Lee County Marine Emergency Response Team (MERT) said the vessel flipped at about 4:00 p.m. between Cape Coral and Fort Myers, ejecting four passengers. Local responders shared photos of search operations and confirmed the casualty count after an extensive, multi-agency effort.

Agencies involved in the search and recovery included the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the U.S. Coast Guard, Lee County Sheriff’s Office marine and aviation units, and other local partners. Initial reports indicated two people were pronounced dead after being pulled from the water; a third victim remained hospitalized before authorities confirmed a third fatality. A 60‑year‑old who had been reported missing was later located and recovered from the river.

The U.S. Coast Guard and other investigators are working to determine the cause of the capsizing. Authorities urged the public to exercise caution on the water and to follow safety practices while boating.
