Three Florida teens — Marcavion Lacey, 19; Robert Pope, 16; and Justin Curry, 13 (12 at the time) — have been charged with murder after 64-year-old Roger Borkum was beaten in downtown Jacksonville and died four days later. An arrest report alleges the attack followed an insult toward the suspects’ "dead homies," though the defendants say they did not intend to kill him. Borkum’s obituary notes he had "narrowly escaped death" on 9/11 after leaving a job on the 77th floor of Tower 1 months earlier. The case remains under investigation and the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Three teenagers have been charged with murder after a 64-year-old man was fatally beaten in downtown Jacksonville in October. Authorities say the victim, identified as Roger Borkum, succumbed to his injuries four days after the assault.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports officers responded to an aggravated battery call on Oct. 19. Borkum was taken to a hospital and died on Oct. 23. Arrested on murder charges are Marcavion Lacey, 19; Robert Pope, 16; and Justin Curry, who is now 13 but was 12 at the time of the alleged attack. Pope and Lacey were taken into custody shortly after the incident; Curry was not indicted until Nov. 20. It was not immediately clear whether any of the defendants have entered pleas.

According to an arrest report, Lacey told investigators that Borkum, whom he did not know, had insulted his "dead homies." The report alleges that Lacey and two others battered the victim but maintained they did not intend to kill him. These details remain allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Family notices and public records describe Borkum as a New York native, a widower and a former computer consultant who once ran his own consulting business. His obituary states he had "narrowly escaped death" on September 11, 2001, after leaving a job on the 77th floor of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center in July 2001; several of his former coworkers later died in the attacks.

"The job was on the 77th floor of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center; his coworkers perished on September 11 of that year."

Investigations into the assault and the circumstances surrounding it are ongoing. Local authorities have filed murder charges; more information, including any formal complaints or court filings, will become public as the case proceeds through the legal system.
