Charity giveaway disrupted after box truck disappears

A box truck carrying nearly 500 frozen turkeys that were intended for a Thanksgiving giveaway was stolen in Lake Elsinore, California, officials said. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office reported the vehicle has not been recovered and no suspects have been identified.

Deputies were alerted shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday when a report came in about the missing truck. Law enforcement searched the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Alexxa Oliver, founder of the Lake Elsinore–based nonprofit U.R. Important, told local media the turkeys were destined for families in need. In a video posted to the group's Facebook page, Oliver said she did not know exactly when the theft occurred and apologized to families who will be affected. "We want to apologize to all of the families who are going to be hit by this," she said.

Authorities have not released any information about suspects. Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Office to assist with the investigation.
