78 Examples Show Zelensky Has Thanked the U.S.; Reporter Rebuts Trump's 'Zero Gratitude' Claim

Daniel Dale compiled 78 public examples contradicting President Trump's claim that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky showed "zero gratitude" to the United States. Zelensky responded to Trump's Truth Social post with a video thanking Americans and specifically naming U.S. aid such as Javelins. Dale said his list is not exhaustive—Ukrainian-language remarks and private meetings were largely excluded—so the actual number of thank-yous is likely higher.

78 Examples Show Zelensky Has Thanked the U.S.; Reporter Rebuts Trump's 'Zero Gratitude' Claim

Reporter Daniel Dale compiled a list of 78 public instances that contradict President Donald Trump's recent claim that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has shown "zero gratitude" to the United States. The collection cites social posts, public remarks and in-person meetings that show repeated expressions of thanks to the U.S., to American citizens, and to Trump personally.

Trump made the assertion in an all-caps Truth Social post, writing that "UKRAINE 'LEADERSHIP' HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS." Hours later, Zelensky posted a video message directly addressing the comment and thanking supporters of Ukraine.

"We are grateful to each and every person who helps Ukraine. We are grateful to the United States, to every American heart, and personally to President Trump for the assistance that—starting with the Javelins—has been saving Ukrainian lives."

Dale included that video as the final entry in his list and described the president's assertion as "not even close to accurate." He noted that Zelensky has offered thanks on dozens of occasions since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022, and that many statements expressly thanked the United States and, at times, Trump personally.

The examples span formats and settings: social media posts (sometimes tagging American officials), remarks made in face-to-face meetings, comments directed at U.S. officials and members of Congress, and statements delivered in Ukraine, the United States, and other countries.

At a recent meeting in Kyiv with Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, Zelensky said: "We are very grateful to President Trump, to the United States, to the entire American people."

Dale emphasized his list was not intended to be comprehensive. He excluded most remarks made in Ukrainian and omitted expressions from closed-door meetings, and he did not count many thank-yous from other senior Ukrainian officials—so the true tally of public and private gratitude is likely higher than 78.

Whether the number of individual acknowledgments will change public perception is open to debate, but the documented examples make clear that the blanket claim of "zero gratitude" is contradicted by numerous public statements from Ukraine's leadership.
