Indiana GOP Lawmakers Targeted by Swatting, Bomb Threats and Intimidation Amid Redistricting Fight

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun and at least eight Republican state senators reported swatting attempts, bomb threats and other intimidation this week after the state Senate adjourned rather than hold a special redistricting session. Law enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police, are working with federal partners to investigate the incidents and seek prosecution where possible. The threats followed public posts by former President Trump pressuring senators to redraw congressional maps; lawmakers from both parties condemned the intimidation and called for it to stop.

Indiana GOP Lawmakers Targeted by Swatting, Bomb Threats and Intimidation Amid Redistricting Fight

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun says he and his family were among Republicans who received threats this week as pressure mounted from former President Donald Trump for state lawmakers to redraw the state's congressional maps.

At least eight Republican state senators reported receiving swatting attempts, bomb threats or other forms of intimidation after the Indiana Senate voted to adjourn until January rather than convene a special redistricting session. State leaders and law enforcement officials say the incidents are being investigated.

What happened

Multiple state senators described frightening, targeted incidents: false emergency reports intended to summon armed officers to private homes (known as swatting), bomb threats directed at businesses and other intimidation tactics. State Sen. Greg Goode reported that his home was swatted following social-media posts pressuring Indiana senators. State Sen. Andy Zay said his rental-car business received a bomb threat. State Sen. Linda Rogers reported several intimidation incidents and said police are investigating.

Context: pressure over redistricting

These incidents followed a series of posts on former President Trump’s Truth Social platform urging Indiana Republicans to hold a special session to redraw maps and singling out specific senators by name. In his posts, Trump criticized Republican senators who declined to act and encouraged efforts to replace them if they did not support his position.

Official response and investigation

Governor Braun called the threats unacceptable and urged they stop. Indiana State Police said they are working with federal and local partners to investigate and pursue criminal prosecution where appropriate. Law enforcement has not publicly attributed the incidents to a single person or determined whether the events are connected.

“These threats to lawmakers, including those received by me and my family in recent days, need to stop,” Gov. Mike Braun said in a public statement.

Leaders from both parties in the Indiana legislature issued an uncommon bipartisan statement condemning the threats and urging calm, while several lawmakers stressed their commitment to continued public service despite the intimidation.

This is a developing story. Authorities continue to investigate and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
