Kilmeade Says Vance 'Jealous' After Warm Oval Office Meeting Between Trump and Zohran Mamdani

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade said Vice President JD Vance appeared "jealous" after President Trump's unexpectedly cordial Oval Office meeting with Zohran Mamdani. Trump praised the 34-year-old as "very rational," noted some overlap in their ideas, and smiled during the press exchange. Vance's only public reaction was an X post calling the moment "an all-timer." The warm encounter surprised observers given earlier clashes between Trump and Mamdani.

President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani met privately in the Oval Office on Friday and then spoke briefly with reporters. The exchange was strikingly cordial: Trump called the 34-year-old Mamdani a "very rational person," said he would feel comfortable living in New York under Mamdani's leadership, and suggested some of their ideas overlap.

Observers noted Trump smiled at Mamdani several times during the press availability. At the meeting's end the two shook hands; Trump patted Mamdani on the arm and twice slapped his hand. The warm tone contrasted with earlier criticism from some Republicans of the self-described democratic socialist.

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade reacted to the scene, saying the encounter may have left Vice President JD Vance "jealous" and even speculating about how dramatically roles and alliances can shift. "They got along fantastic," Kilmeade said. "This was a love-fest... a respect-fest."

Vance's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. On X, the vice president posted: "POTUS has a lot of good moments but this is an all-timer," referencing an exchange where Trump told a reporter it was acceptable to call Mamdani a "fascist" rather than ask him to explain past remarks.

Trump, who in previous weeks had called Mamdani a "communist lunatic" and "not very smart," said he expects Mamdani may change once in office. "I changed a lot," Trump said. "I feel very confident that he can do a very good job. I think he is going to surprise some conservative people, actually."

The unexpectedly warm meeting blurred some partisan lines and prompted surprise and commentary across the political spectrum, underscoring how a single Oval Office encounter can reshape narratives—at least temporarily.
