House Ethics Committee Extends Review of Rep. Mike Collins and Chief of Staff

Key points: The House Committee on Ethics has extended its review of a complaint against Rep. Mike Collins and his chief of staff, Brandon Phillips, and expects decisions by Jan. 5, 2026. The extension is procedural and not a finding of wrongdoing. A Collins spokesperson called the referral “bogus,” and the committee has not disclosed details due to confidentiality rules.

The House Committee on Ethics has extended its review of a complaint involving Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) and his chief of staff, Brandon Phillips, and expects to reach decisions by Jan. 5, 2026.

In notices filed Friday, the committee said it had “extended the matter.” The filings make clear that an extension is procedural and “does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee.” Notices of extension are required to be published by law.

A Collins spokesperson dismissed the referral as politically motivated, calling it “bogus” and “a desperate and baseless attack by Rep. Collins’ political opponents,” and said the office expects the complaint to be dismissed once the committee completes its work. Collins and Phillips did not respond to requests for comment.

The committee has not disclosed the nature of the complaint. By rule, the Ethics Committee generally cannot reveal the status of or its determinations on specific submissions while they are under review.

Background

Collins represents Georgia’s 10th Congressional District. His congressional biography notes that he and his wife own a trucking company that employs more than 100 people and moves freight across the United States.

In June, Collins announced a campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Jon Ossoff. In an advertisement launching his bid, Collins said, “I don’t know who Jon Ossoff really works for, but it sure as heck isn’t Georgia.”

The Ethics Committee’s extension means the matter will remain under confidential review until the committee reaches a determination or deadlines are updated.
