What happened: On Nov. 17, armed attackers broke into the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi state, abducting 25 female students and fatally wounding the vice principal, Malam Hassan Makaku.
Immediate response: Police units engaged the assailants, and a combined force of police, military and local vigilantes launched a search-and-rescue operation. One other staff member was injured.
Status: The students remain missing and no group has claimed responsibility; searches and investigations are ongoing.
