“Compensate Me for My Husband’s Murder”: Jamal Khashoggi’s Widow Demands Apology After MBS White House Visit

Jamal Khashoggi’s widow demands apology and compensation after White House meeting
The widow of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Hanan Khashoggi, publicly condemned Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman following his meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House. The visit—marked by a ceremonial flyover—became contentious when reporters pressed both leaders about Khashoggi’s 2018 killing in Istanbul.
Khashoggi disappeared after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018. Turkish investigators concluded he was killed and dismembered inside the consulate, and U.S. intelligence later assessed that the crown prince likely ordered the assassination. Khashoggi had been a prominent critic of the Saudi government.
When the Oval Office opened briefly to the press, President Trump defended bin Salman and described Khashoggi as a "controversial" figure. The crown prince—who is now also serving as prime minister—called the incident "painful" and a "huge mistake." The exchange drew an immediate response from Khashoggi’s widow.
"This is not justification to murder him. While Jamal was a good, transparent and brave man, many may not have agreed with his opinions and desire for freedom of the press. The Crown Prince said he was sorry, so he should meet me, apologize and compensate me for the murder of my husband."
Hanan Khashoggi issued the statement to CNN and later told MSNBC host Chris Jansing she had a "heavy feeling" about the meeting and wished her husband were alive to confront the crown prince himself. She is calling for a personal meeting, a public apology and financial compensation as part of her demand for accountability.
The case remains a focal point of international concern over press freedom and human rights. Hanan Khashoggi’s public appeal underscores ongoing calls for transparency and justice in the aftermath of her husband’s killing.
